Vandy celebrates its start

This week marks the 134th anniversary of Cornelius Vanderbilt’s gift of to the university. Cornelius Vanderbilt gave $1 million in 1873 to found the university he hoped would strengthen the ties between the geographic regions of the country. This year’s Founder’s Day included a lecture on the educational ideals of Chancellor James H. Kirkland (podcast available here) and a birthday celebration for the university.
