Alvarez in NYT

Wonderful story and photos in this past Sunday’s New York Times on Vandy slugger Pedro Alvarez, who as an 18-year-old turned down a million dollar signing bonus from the Red Sox in order to pursue his education, and college baseball, at Vanderbilt. Great profile of Alvarez’s stellar career so far and of his supportive family. [...]

Shan Foster SEC Player of the Year

Congratulations to Vanderbilt’s fantastic Shan Foster for being named SEC Player of the Year. Foster’s electrifying performances on the court this year coupled with his work in the classroom and in the community make him well-deserving of this honor.
It’s a four-peat for Vandy–Commodore Derrick Byars won last year, Dan Langhi in 2000 and Will Perdue [...]

Go ‘Dores!

I crawled out from under my virtual rock long enough last night to watch the Commodores beat Wake Forest in a heckuva (I guess it should be heckuvan) exciting game - 83-80, touch and go until the last second of course in fine Commodore tradition. So, hey, turns out it’s basketball season! Turns out the [...]

VU homecoming game on national t.v.

The Vanderbilt-Georgia game, a centerpiece of this year’s homecoming weekend, will be televised nationally by ESPN2. The sold-out game kicks off at 5 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Vandy fans are still recovering from the nail-biter that was our last ESPN2 appearance - vs. Florida on Nov. 5, 2005. That game ended with No. 13 Florida [...]

Pardon the exclamation point, but I am delighted by this development. The news came like a nice cool breath of fresh air in this sweltering August, when we found out today that our beloved baseball coach, Tim Corbin, turned down yet another suitor and is staying at Vanderbilt. Get the scoop.
